The cable stayed steel road bridge at Jackfield opened in 1994 to a design by Gifford and Partners. The cable stayed bridge replaced the reinforced concrete Jackfield Free Bridge built by public subscription and completed in 1921 to a design by Frenchman LG Mouchel similar to the Buildwas bridge. The 'Free Bridge' suffered problems from the 1930s and was subject to onerous weight restrictions and for many years required a temporary Bailey Bridge with 3 ton limit.
