East is east and west is west and ne'er the twain shall meet. Not here anyway, the trip boat above the weir is separated from the canal boats below by a control sluice hidden behind the trees to the right of it.
The trip boat operates between here and the toll bridge at Batheaston where its progress is stopped by another weir. MEP

A trip boat heads downstream under the bridge over which the railway curves into Bath Spa station. It is easy to imagine that the gentleman standing is lecturing the passengers about the wonders of Brunel's Great Western Railway.
