To the halfway point of 2012 that is
My last blog finished at the end of April and the last two months have been as interesting as ever, although I failed to have the anticipated day out with Ashley Dace.
On May 6 and 7 I was on duty at Claymills Pumping Station and captured some of the atmosphere . I also got a PotY nomination but no cigar .
The weekend of May 12 and 13 was National Mills weekend and I went wild in Shropshire managing 10 of the sites listed on the website as participating.
Shelsley Walsh , Rockhill Mill, Greete , Ashford Carbonel Mill , Dinham Mill, Ludlow , Clun Mill , Wrickton Mill , Charlcotte Iron Furnace , Cleobury Mill , Whitcot Mill and Brockton Mill .
A couple of extras were also grabbed .
The next weekend I was at the Devon County Show on the Saturday . There was also another PotY shortlisting . On the Sunday I called in at Clyston Watermill and a converted textile mill in Culmstock .
I closed the month out on Sunday May 27 with a visit to St Mary's Mill at Chalford and the large estate barn at Frocester .
June started with a week's holiday in Falmouth and two PotY shortlistings . I did succeed in getting a reasonable amount of industrial archaeology.
Tolgus Tin , Wayside Museum, Zennor , King Edward Mine , Michell's Whim , Heartlands and Taylor's Pumping engine . The next few days were windy or wet .
On June 17 I had a wasted journey to Coventry looking for steam narrowboats . On Saturday June 23 I visited Daniel's Mill Eardington . On Sunday June 24 I spent a day in Cheshire with a colleague. We visited Walk Mill , the National Waterways Museum at Ellesmere Port , Bunbury Mill and Stretton Mill .
The month was closed out with a trip to Street , Glastonbury and Wells
July has got off to an excellent start with much of industrial interest and an event to celebrate the tercentenary of Newcomen's engine.
