Cwm Rheidol

By Rudi Winter

This walk was an out-and-back job into the Rheidol gorge and up to Pontarfynach/Devil's Bridge, starting from the dam of Cwmrheidol hydro-electric power station. I'd planned to run the downhill leg as one of the excursions surrounding the 2015 Geograph conference at Aberystwyth and wanted to optimise the route for that walk, taking in the power station SN7079 : Decorative turbine, Rheidol power station by Rudi Winter, Rheidol falls SN7078 : Rheidol falls by Rudi Winter and fish ladder SN7078 : Fish ladder, Afon Rheidol by Rudi Winter, the Vale of Rheidol railway SN7377 : Vale of Rheidol steam train by Rudi Winter, views into the Rheidol gorge SN7377 : Rheidol gorge by Rudi Winter, the remnants of Cwmrheidol mine SN7278 : Cwmrheidol filter beds by Rudi Winter and a selection of small chapels SN7278 : Bethel Methodist chapel, Cwmrheidol by Rudi Winter in the valley.
