Ceredigion coast north of Llangrannog

By Rudi Winter

This is the most recent section of the Ceredigion Coast Path SN3255 : Ceredigion coast path plaque by Rudi Winter, which makes it a continuous walk all the way from the Pembrokeshire border near Aberteifi/Cardigan to the Dyfi estuary. I started this walk at Cwmtydu, which is a bit off the beaten track but has ample space to leave a car. Cwmtydu lies in a breach in the coastal cliff formed by two streams merging just before they reach the beach, and so the walk starts with a steep climb SN3557 : Ceredigion coast path climbing onto the cliff, Cwmtydu by Rudi Winter onto the cliff path SN3457 : Clifftop vegetation near Cwmtydu by Rudi Winter some 150m above the sea. After a short stretch on the cliff edge, the path drops gently down the cliff face towards Llangrannog SN3456 : Clifftop south of Cwmtydu by Rudi Winter. For much of this section, the path has been carved out of the cliff face SN3456 : Wildlife cruise in Cardigan bay by Rudi Winter. It's reasonably wide SN3355 : Ceredigion coast path approaching Llangrannog by Rudi Winter, but one does get a feel of being in the middle of a massive rock face SN3355 : Ceredigion coast path below Penmoelciliau by Rudi Winter - very nice on a sunny day, but it'll be different in a gale!

Shortly before reaching Llangrannog the headland becomes much lower SN3355 : Trwyn Crou by Rudi Winter and the long peninsula of Ynys Lochtyn SN3456 : Ceredigion coast path between Cwmtydu and Llangrannog by Rudi Winter can be used as a progress marker on the descent. Before reaching it, I turned inland towards the Urdd centre SN3254 : Gwersyll yr Urdd Llangrannog by Rudi Winter and its dry-ski slope and followed the minor road running parallel to the coast SN3455 : Cattle at Ciliau-Hwnt by Rudi Winter back to Cwmtydu.
