A walk in the Hafod estate, Pont-rhyd-y-groes

By Rudi Winter

Started from the main car park of Hafod estate near Cwmystwyth, following the blue and red waymarked paths into the Ystwyth gorge. There's a spectacular waterfall SN7773 : Rhaeadr Peiran, Hafod estate by Rudi Winter in the Nant Peiran. A viewpoint on a retaining wall above the Ystwyth gives a good overview of the valley and the meandering river SN7672 : Viewpoint, Hafod estate by Rudi Winter. After crossing the Alpine bridge, the red track leads up to the southern boundary wall of the old estate SN7572 : Enclosing wall, Hafod estate by Rudi Winter.

From here I tried to find my way across open moorland towards the upper village of Pont-rhyd-y-groes but must have missed a turn somewhere near Storehouse SN7572 : Looking across the Nant Ffin towards Storehouse by Rudi Winter and ended up in bog SN7572 : Boggy grassland adjacent to Coed Bwlchgwallter by Rudi Winter. Back through dense forest SN7672 : Coed Bwlchgwallter by Rudi Winter, past Dologau bridge SN7773 : Pont Dologau by Rudi Winter and back to the car park.
