A day trip to London
Having discovered that the steam tug Portwey was offering public trips on the Thames, I booked four places and our party departed Worcester at 0730 to catch the 1100 sailing. Portwey is a twin screw coal fired tug and a ride was a very special experience. This was heightened by the trip under Tower Bridge and past HMS Belfast . After two hours or so we disembarked and saw a couple of items of interest on the Isle of Dogs and were surprised by the passage of another historic vessel - .
Following this we made a trip to Markfield road Pumping station, Tottenham to see the beam engine's new colour scheme . Sadly it was not in steam due to boiler problems. We then just had to battle our way back out of London.
Everybody agreed that it had been a special day - chance to ride steamships in steam are not all that common (usual suspects - Waverley etc - excluded).
