A few textiles mills methinks. Elk Mill, Royton built 1926 and powered by a Parsons steam turbine ![]() Diamond Ropeworks, Royton. The steam engine is preserved at Bolton ![]() Nearby Shaw has seen many mills demolished, including Ash Mill ![]() New Hey near Rochdale was home to Ellenroad Ring Mill but only the engine house complex and chimney survive.Kent Mill, Chadderton was a large mill next to Manor Mill and has now been replaced by a school ![]() Crawford mill, Rochdale was a bit ramshackle when I saw it ![]() Mars Mill at Rochdale has gone but Marland next door still stands.Also in Rochdale was stately State Mill, alas no more ![]() Atlas Mills in Bolton was a huge complex, replaced with a Morrisons ![]() In Yorkshire there was the rural idyll of Linton Mills that once also generated electricity for the village ![]() It appears that the oldest part of Ramsden Mills near Huddersfield has also gone and this mill in Bradford is also a casualty ![]() A modern frontage could be seen at Crossley Kossett, Kidderminster ![]() |

A few chemical and coke works. Dr Neil Clifton provided a view of the long since gone vinyl works in Carshalton .The Thomas Ness tar distillery in Caerphilly is also gone ![]() Coal Products Ltd operated several coke works, including Avenue , Hawthorn , Monkton and Fishburn ![]() Randolph at Evenwood was operated by a separate company ![]() British Steel was responsible for Orgreave , a site destined to go down in the history of British industrial disputes.Coalite operated a smokeless fuels plant and a chemical (byproducts) plant near Bolsover. |
