Steam machines al fresco

As it is no longer possible to edit the earlier submissions, I am adding five further steam hammers here. First off is this little Rigby's patent by R G Ross at Park Bridge near Oldham . A larger example built in 1918 by Davy Bros of sheffield is well preserved outside a forge in Doncaster and floodlit at night . A fairly large example is in the open at Chatham Dockyard but you will have to pay to see it . The device at Griffithstown is NOT a steam hammer but is a Massey pneumatic with integral air compressor. Finally, I have just found this of the second hammer preserved in Blaenavon . It was previously at Doncaster's works in the town. |

Corrected the above entry as one is not really a steam hammer. |

At last, I've spotted a photograph of the second and smaller hammer in Blaenavon - . The eagle eyed will have spotted there is a different view of this hammer in the previous post too. |

Unfortunately, the Merrywalks Shopping Centre engine is no longer on display. The centre has changed hands and is being refurbished and rebranded. |

The beam engine that was in the open at Canterbury has now been moved to the museum at Whitstable and will hopefully be more fully restored there. |
