Three Mile Cross

With a couple of old council signs to get in Wokingham I worked out a route I hadn't used before and then continue west. Unfortunately I forgot I was meant to go back from Barkham to Nine Mile Ride on the way back and went back the same way I went and missed a new line of red spots I'll have to do another time. Otherwise all went well, a little weekday traffic as you'd expect, including inevitable roadworks, but nothing too demanding. It completed much of the east side of Reading, with the road system there tending to funnel everyone through the new (to me anyway) one way system on the A4 straight through the middle which is as before always gridlocked during daylight hours. The actual road system west from London besides the A4 and M4 is actually almost non-existent north of the A30, so trying to keep going beyond the Reading-Basingstoke railway line simply empties you into a maze of tiny unclassified roads which don't really go anywhere and need a good map to keep going west rather than follow the random network. As before half the route outside the suburbs is forest, probably part of one which covered all of Bracknell and beyond Surrey Heath and the extent towards Basingstoke to the west. It has still been kept in Bracknell new town, with the housing estates being situated within the trees rather than cutting most of them down as they did with the forest across north London which is now mainly just Hampstead Heath which was left.
