Geo-Trips :: Circular walk in the Ledmore and Migdale Woodland Trust Reserve

Loch Migdale

A walk from Spinningdale near Bonar Bridge, Sat, 18 Mar 2017 by Julian Paren

With a day to spare when visiting Dornoch I took the opportunity to visit the Woodland Trust Reserve of Ledmore and Migdale. I had no set plan, but constructed this 8 mile walk based on the way-marked routes indicated on the display panels at the entrances to this reserve. A bit of mix-and-match. The trees are quite fine and there is a very extensive view from the highest point on the walk, the flat moorland summit of A'Chraisg. The part of the walk that was the highlight was walking on a real narrow footpath into the old native woodland of Ledmore - an out and back spur to a viewpoint over the derelict Sunningdale Mill. This section has waymarkers every 30 metres or so until the viewpoint where there is then no indication that this is the end of the path.

On the map below, the grey line is the GPS track from this trip. Click the blue circles to see a photograph taken from that spot and read further information about the location. The blue lines indicate the direction of view. There is also a slideshow of this trip. ( )
