Geo-Trips :: An Unplanned Excursion

North Kincardineshore Coast

A walk from Cove Bay Harbour, Fri, 9 Mar 2018 by Anne Burgess

I had booked the car in for its first service in Aberdeen. When I booked it in, I was told it would take an hour and a half. So I didn't plan anything in particular to do while it was being worked on. When I arrived they said the service was an hour and a half, but there were also software updates and they would need the car for 5 hours, and would I like a lift into town? After some dithering, I said no, but would they drop me at Cove Bay? They did so, and I spent the next five hours walking along the coast to Girdle Ness and then back through Torry. The cliffs are splendid, full of caves and inlets, but I was disappointed to find that the coastal path has been diverted away from Greg Ness, which is about to be obliterated from the map as part of a massive expansion of Aberdeen Harbour. Torry was of course a complete contrast, with some interesting buildings including the usual oversupply of churches. (History repeats itself sometimes - see Link ).

Click the blue circles to see a photograph taken from that spot and read further information about the location. The blue lines indicate the direction of view. There is also a slideshow of this trip. ( )
