Geo-Trips :: A walk on the Standish coalfield

Standish

A walk from Wigan, Fri, 24 Sep 2010 by Raymond Knapman

This walk covers the remains of the once extensive coalfield between Wigan and Standish. After suburban Wigan, paths from Gidlow Lane through open country lead to Standish Hall and then to Shevington Moor. From here the main road to Standish where I caght the bus back to Wigan.

An interesting walk taking in places not normally visited unless you are a Geographer!

Click the blue circles to see a photograph taken from that spot and read further information about the location. The blue lines indicate the direction of view. There is also a slideshow of this trip. ( )
