South Downs

A walk from Kingston near Lewes, Mon, 14 May 2012 by Chris Heaton

preceding legThis trip is part of a series.

The day began with a stiff climb up the chalk escarpment to reach the South Downs National Trail on Castle Hill. The route then led across Swanborough Hill, Ilford Hill and Front Hill affording wide views in all directions before losing all the height - descending to Southease and crossing the River Ouse.

Another ascent was required up Itford Hill to gain the chalk ridge taking us over Beddingham Hill to reach Firle Beacon.

Over to Bostal Hill, followed by a descent into the Cuckmere Valley and the village of Alfriston.

Distance:- 12 miles
