Geo-Trips :: A walk around the Hardwick Hall Estate

Hardwick Estate, Chesterfield, Derbyshire

A walk from Hardwick Hall, Fri, 11 Sep 2009 by Trevor Rickard

If you fancy a day out steeped in history and within easy access of the M1, then try Hardwick Hall, perhaps the finest Elizabethan stately home in the land. If you're feeling energetic, why not combine a look at the hall itself (there are two - 'old' and 'new') with a walk around the estate and surrounding countryside. My walk of about ten miles took in most of the current Hardwick parkland and beyond, including the smallest village in England and its beautiful church, the site of a Medieval mansion, a working corn mill and evidence of the coal mining history of this area.

Click the blue circles to see a photograph taken from that spot and read further information about the location. The blue lines indicate the direction of view. There is also a slideshow of this trip. ( )
