Geo-Trips :: Exploring the Public Rights of Way, Harby Hills and the Vale of Belvoir

Vale of Belvoir, Leicestershire

A walk from Bridleway off Scalford Road, Eastwell, Wed, 11 Aug 2010 by Kate Jewell

A lovely sunny day encouraged me to explore some footpaths and bridleways I hadn't walked along before, even though they are on my doorstep! The images clearly show the changing terrain as I descended down the steep escarpment of the Harby Hills to the relatively flat Vale of Belvoir. My walk also took in one of the old mineral railway tracks which criss-cross the Vale a glimpse into the area's industrial past. (See John Sutton's excellent coverage of the remains of the mineral railway system in the area on Geograph)

Click the blue circles to see a photograph taken from that spot and read further information about the location. The blue lines indicate the direction of view. There is also a slideshow of this trip. ( )
