Crackington Haven to Tintagel

Week 2- Day 4 – Tuesday 29 September 2009

Distance 11.4 miles, Ascent 4050ft

According to the South West Coast Path Association’s guide book the first half of today’s walk is described as strenuous and includes high cliffs including the appropriately named High Cliff which at 700ft is the highest cliff in Cornwall. With such high cliffs the day involved a considerable amount of ascent and descent. Lunchtime brought me to the popular harbour and village of Boscastle. This picturesque village has always been popular with visitors and holidaymakers. Further interest was stimulated in August 2004 when very heavy localised rainfall caused a devastating flood with vehicles being washed out to sea and destruction to many houses and businesses. Miraculously no one lost their lives that day. Walking through the village today everything appears back to normal. The afternoon walk took me past ‘The Ladies Window’, eroded rock creating a natural window high above the sea. The end of the day’s walk brought me to Tintagel with its castle and its legends linking it with King Arthur. I found myself a B&B in a house with fine views out over the sea.

Click the blue circles to see a photograph taken from that spot and read further information about the location. The blue lines indicate the direction of view. There is also a slideshow of this trip. ( )
