Survey tower near West Linton
When the Talla Reservoir near Tweedsmuir was constructed at the beginning of the twentieth century, its water was carried north towards Edinburgh through a large pipeline, mainly underground. To lay out accurately the route the conduit was to follow a number of towers were built from which surveyors could make observations. This survivor is in empty moorland south-west of the village of West Linton. The bridge in the background was an accommodation bridge over a cutting on the Leadburn to Dolphinton line of the North British Railway.
