World War II remnants near Lamancha
Some of the hazardous "multis" referred to be Richard Webb in an earlier photograph in this grid square could be unexploded ammunition because the former Dolphinton to Leadburn line of the North British Railway, which lost its passenger services in 1933, was taken over by the War Department during the Second World War to serve a number of military stores depots scattered across the moors between Leadburn and West Linton. This site to the west of Lamancha has possibly the greatest number of remains other than grass-covered foundations, these three wooden huts being the seventy-year-old survivors of a great number originally in regimented rows on the hillside. The old railway line passed beyond the nearest hut and in front of the two in the background.
