Flowering Heather in Queen's Park, Bournemouth
Before Bournemouth developed as a town in the 19th century, the area was almost entirely heathland. Queen's Park survived as a heathland common until most of the vegetation was stripped out to create a golf course in 1903-5. Patches of heather and gorse are now being encouraged to return.
