Merrow, The Golden Gates
Merrow, The Golden Gates
Merrow is a former village, now a suburb of Guildford. These gates are between 2 separate gatehouse buildings and lead into the National Trust estate of Clandon Park. The estate is centred around Clandon House, seat of the Earl of Onslow, but public footpaths cross the estate, including one to the left of the first gatehouse. The park is still farmed and also used as a pheasantry, and for "horsiculture".
