The Royal Iris of the Mersey
The Royal Iris of the Mersey
This ship was launched in 1959 into the River Dart as the “Mountwood”, and arrived on the Mersey in 1960. In 2001 she was re-engined, almost completely rebuilt, and became the “Royal Iris of the Mersey”. When she was the Mountwood, she was used in the film "Ferry Cross The Mersey", the musical named after the Gerry and the Pacemakers song. She also appeared in the opening titles for the television series, The Liver Birds.
