SK3834 : River Derwent, Old Channel

near to Alvaston, Derby, Great Britain

River Derwent, Old Channel
River Derwent, Old Channel
This is the start of a large meander to the north.

I suspect that the main channel (seen here SK3834 : The Derwent from The A5111) is a case on Man accelerating the natural processes and cutting a direct route though the neck, complete with weir.
