Steel turret overlooking Seacombe
Steel turret overlooking Seacombe
This Allen-Williams steel turret is located on the east side of the Seacombe valley, overlooking Seacombe quarry. It is a relic of the Second World War, a defensive position that comprising a rotating steel dome over a cylindrical pit in the ground. The slit trench in the foreground may be the original way in? There is another surviving turret on the Isle of Purbeck at Worbarrow Bay - see SY8779 : WWII defences.
