TL7412 : EAAGA memorial, Boreham airfield
taken 18 years ago, 3 km from Gamble's Green, Essex, England
EAAGA memorial, Boreham airfield.
The EAAGA (Essex Anglo-American Goodwill Association) memorial at the northern perimeter of the former Boreham airfield. The EAAGA was a short-lived organisation in the late 1940s and only managed to erect three of this type of memorial before being wound up. The gateway leads to the old control tower where the Essex Police Air Support Unit and Essex Air Ambulance helicopters are based. The airfield was home to the U.S. Ninth Air Force 394th Bomb Group in 1944. After the war the airfield was used for a while as a motor racing circuit and later a test track for the Ford Motor Company and Ford Motorsport. The site is now being destroyed by gravel extraction.
