taken 12 years ago, near to Elworthy, Somerset, Great Britain

Brendon Hills hedge.
Brendon Hills hedge.
This type of tall beech hedge planted on an earth bank is a characteristic of the Brendon Hills. After a number of years the trees are cut and "laid", then left to grow up again to form a very effective windbreak.
