Gauging station on New Cut
As opposed to New Cut (drain): TL5257 : Fulbourn Gauging Station N.G.R. TL 528570. These stations allow the Environment Agency to measure the flow in the rivers and assess flood risks or water shortages. They work by measuring the height of the water above a weir, which together with the width of the weir and a bit of fluid mechanics, gives the volume flow rate.
