St Andrews Golf Course and Waterfront
St Andrews is known throughout the world as the Home of Golf. Golf was first played there about 1400. In 1754, the Royal and Ancient Golf Club was founded under its original name of the Society of St Andrews Golfers. This club still governs the rules of golf everywhere except in the United States. Since 1974, St Andrews Links Trust has run the Links as public golf courses open to anyone. The famous "Chariots of Fire" scene of athletes running on the beach was filmed on this beach.
