TQ9883 : Artificial island, Thames estuary, north side looking west

5 km from Shoeburyness, Southend-on-Sea, Great Britain

Artificial island, Thames estuary, north side looking west
This artificial island had been constructed in the early 70s to see if land could be reclaimed for the proposed Maplin airport and if it would survive in the tides and currents of the estuary. My colleague and I landed there while sailing my small yacht from West Thurrock (up river) to the River Crouch, through Havengore passage.
