Swinnel Brook at Cams
Swinnel Brook at Cams
The stone is a boundary stone for the railway from Bury to Accrington, built in 1848 and closed in 1966. It bears the letters LYR for Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway and marks the boundary of the land bought for the railway. The railway formerly went across the background of the photo (about where the people are) on an embankment which was removed in the 1980's. This area of Cams is scheduled to be improved soon, hopefully the boundary stone, which is in danger of falling into the water, will be saved.
