Mr. Clarke's Free School, Laurence St., Drogheda
Red brick with limestone dressings; single bay breakfront. School founded here in 1669, one of three founded under royal charter granted to Erasmus Smith, the others being Tipperary and Galway. This building was built c.1740 and is shown on Ravell's map of Drogheda 1749, both in plan and in an architectural vignette in the margin. The lane on left is Freeschool Lane. Sold when Drogheda Grammar School moved to new site in 1976. A protected structure but demolished early Sunday morning 23 July 1989.
