Asheldham Pits
Asheldham Pits
This worked out gravel pit was until recently an Essex Wildlife LinkExternal link nature reserve. It extends to about 14 hectares. St John’s wort and birdsfoot trefoil grow here. It is a significant over wintering site for wildfowl. Due to the expiry of the lease management has now returned to the gravel extraction company.
