Castle point council claim this to be “probably the most beautiful and varied of the woods of south east Essex.” It consists of two fragments of ancient woodland; Shipwrights and Jarvis woods, which are separated by an earth bank. There is a meadow rich in wild flowers; including orchids to the north west of the wood seeTQ7987 : The Hay Meadow and TQ7987 : Shipwright's Wood - The meadow.
