Back in the 1950s there used to be four tracks here or a little nearer Claverham; an up and a down line, as today, together with two long loops which were used by freight trains, parcels trains and light engines, to allow expresses and holiday relief traffic to pass. In fact Yatton station was a bit of a bottleneck on summer weekends, with a succession of trains passing in either direction. Claverham had its own signalbox to control the loops as well as the main lines, and there was probably another box before Yatton. On the Weston side of Yatton there were two more loops for slower trains.
