Waterloo Bridge, Betws y Coed
Waterloo Bridge, Betws y Coed
The bridge was constructed in the same year as the Battle of Waterloo. It was designed by Thomas Telford in celebration of the battle and forms one of the crossings on his main road to Holyhead (the A5 today). The cast iron body of the bridge includes the inscription "This arch was constructed in the same year the battle of Waterloo was fought" and includes the leek, thistle, rose and shamrock (now painted in red) to represent Wales, Scotland, England and Ireland.
