SK3900 : A high-sided bridge
near to Shenton, Leicestershire, Great Britain

A high-sided bridge
This footbridge, now disused, crosses the former Ashby to Nuneaton railway just south of Shenton station on the preserved Battlefield Line. It is of normal lattice girder construction but internally is completely panelled in by these high timber fences, topped with arched wind-braces. The footpath it once carried has now been diverted to cross the railway on the level adjacent to the station but maps suggest that it might also have served as a bridleway, in which case the timbering could have been provided to avoid horses being frightened by the passage of steam trains beneath.
