A lichen - Ramalina fraxinea
This species is found on nutrient-rich bark. The specimen shown here was fairly large, but did not have many apothecia (spore-producing discs). The few that were present were borne on short stalks, and were located on the surface of the lobes (especially near the edges).
A few apothecia are present on the lobe that is emerging to the left of centre. Another picture of that lobe, taken on a different date, shows these discs more clearly: NS4583 : Lichen detail - Ramalina fraxinea.
For pictures of other Ramalina species, see: NS3778 : A lichen - Ramalina fastigiata.
