Statue of Robert Peel, Woodhouse Moor, Leeds
Sir Robert Peel looks out from the north end of Woodhouse Moor, across Hyde Park Road towards Wrangthorne Church. (Sorry I haven't got his face - with a low winter sun behind him it was not possible!)
Robert Peel died in an accident in 1850, and 26 statues of him were erected around Britain. This was the first, and also claims 2 other firsts, the first bronze figure in Britain that was cast in one piece, and the first dressed as his contemporaries would have known him, rather than in Greek or Roman drapes.
