SD3545 : Brine Wells near Preesall

Brine Wells near Preesall
Brine Wells near Preesall
On the '40s map this area is labelled "Salt Mines" which sounds more interesting than brine wells. The underground salt layer was a factor in the development of the chemical industry in nearby Thornton [across the River Wyre]. There is one well head and what appear to be two ventilation pipes in the photo, but there are many more spread through the fields here.
