SP1870 : Stratford Canal at Lapworth Junction
near to Kingswood, Warwickshire, Great Britain

Stratford Canal at Lapworth Junction
After passing through Lock 19, only the eighteenth in fairly quick succession of the Lapworth Flight because there was once a lock No 1 at Kings Norton at the northern end of the Stratford Canal, canal boaters must make a decision: go straight ahead under the photographer’s position if heading further down the canal to Stratford-on-Avon or pass to his right if they wish to divert on to the Grand Union Canal for Warwick or back to Birmingham. Alongside several of the locks in this long flight, the canal has been widened into small reservoirs to help conserve water, though judging by the flow over the weir in the centre of the picture, there is plenty of water coming down the canal. The junction reservoir forms a convenient base to moor private narrowboats between trips.
