The Isle of Wight Ferry swings out of the harbour as a similar incoming vessel approaches from The Solent, passing The Point on the left of the image. The wash of the approaching ferry shows that it had been travelling slowly to allow the first ship across its bows, enabling it to pass on the right. Now the arriving vessel is moving at greater speed to make its own entrance to the terminal, out of sight to our left.
This is No 6 of a sequence of images taken from the second deck of the Spinnaker Tower, timed at 13:09 GMT. The dullness of the day was probably an advantage in that reflections from the angled glass windows of the tower observation platform were easily controlled.
My great aunt and uncle used to live in a flat on the ground floor of the block with the red mural on the side. Unfortunately their flat faced inland, so no views of the harbour. As far as I remember the murals were made of tiles and must have been quite controversial when the blocks were built.
