TG4013 : Wiseman's Oby Mill
taken 15 years ago, near to Upton, Norfolk, England
Wiseman's Oby Mill
This view was taken in southerly direction across a marsh pasture adjoining the track to Upton Black Mill. Wiseman's Oby mill, now derelict, once used to be 4 storeys tall. The brick mill was located on the Oby Manor House estate which was tenanted by the Wiseman family, hence it is known as Wiseman's Mill. It is believed to have been built in 1753. Its sails powered both a drainage wheel as well as a saw bench, presumably used for estate work. An engine-driven turbine was used in addition, when required. The building was Grade II listed in 2008.
