SE2633 : Site of Armley Moor Station, LeedsAs a schoolboy in the early 1950s I would walk on a foopath alongside the railway line from Tong Road at its junction with Thornhill Road.
Armley Moor Station was quite an extensive site with sidings to the right hand side of the picture and a goods yard to the left.
As one approach along the footpath from Tong Road you passed the side of Blakeys Foundry, from where the famous Blakey's Studs were manufactured, and then turned at right angles across a main entrance to the foundry. Often wagons of scrap metal would be shunted into the foundry and one had to wait for this operation to be completed before continuing to Whingate.
