From Roman Wall to 18th C. Military road to B6318 (once the main route from Newcastle to Carlisle) and now a farm track, this scruffy looking bit of road has had a long and varied history. It was made redundant when the A69 Trunk Road (happily invisible in the dip) was built, but its continuation can be seen in the distance heading west, still faithfully following the Roman line.
