Middleton Top Engine House
Middleton Top Engine House
Built in 1829 the Middleton Top Engine House was used to haul wagons on the Cromford and High Peak Railway up the Middleton Incline, the gradient of which is 1 in 8.5 for 708 yards. This ceased in 1963 and the path of the railway track is now the High Peak cycle trail. The engine shed has been designated an ancient monument.
