Simon's Cross
Simon's Cross
This is the base of an old wayside cross known as Simon's Cross. Water which collects in the mortice hole in the cross base was thought locally to cure warts which accounts for the alternative name for this stone - 'Wart Well'. The stone is on the boundary between Read and Simonstone.

The words 'Simon's Cross' and a cross symbol are inscribed on the base. The shaft has been missing for many years.
