Inverie House
Inverie House
The mansion for the Knoydart Estate the house was built in the early 19th century for Colonel Alasdair MacDonell of Glengarry. A succession of unsympathetic owners followed. Most notorious being Lord Brocket from 1934 until his death in 1967. A Nazi sympathiser and personal friend of Hitler, he attended Hitler's 50th birthday party in 1939 and entertained Ribbentrop the German ambassador at Inverie. Post war he prosecuted returning servicemen who attempted to establish crofts on the estate.'The seven men of Knoydart'. Following a community buy out in the '90's it has now entered happier period.
