A few photographs taken to illustrate a study of the course of the former Throckley Aqueduct constructed as open-cut channel, tunnel and pipeline in 1869 by the Newcastle & Gateshead Water Company to take water from Whittle Dene Reservoir to Throckley Filters. This water course was for many years the major supply of water for domestic use on Tyneside.
