Turpin's Hill
Turpin's Hill
Although all traces of the large cairn at the highest part of this pasture-covered hill are now obliterated, found in it in 1771 and 1795 were two stone coffins, in one of which were two urns, with copper coins of the Roman period. The site is said to lie on a suspected Roman frontier predating Hadrian's Wall (the 255 degree line) largely deduced from track, road and site alignments.
