The Nine Elms
The Nine Elms
These two houses lie within the border of the Earl of Derby's estate, whose seat is Knowsley Hall. They are situated on Knowsley Lane. The house on the left of the photo is The Nine Elms. It was originally built as a farmhouse in 1672. I grew up in that house which my father had rented from the Earl of Derby. The black and white timber framed house on the right was, at the time of the photo, occupied by the Earl of Derby's personal secretary.
